More epic views - Beartooth Highway

Our reason for going to the USA is to visit Yellowstone National Park and ride at two lift accessed mountain bike parks nearby.

There are five ways of driving in to Yellowstone. I chose the Beartooth Highway as we were approaching from the north east via Montana. Wow! So glad we did this drive. Beartooth is narrower and more windy and shorter than Canada's Icefields parkway but it rivals it for alpine views. It only opened to traffic a couple of days before due to being closed for winter. After a drive along a beautiful valley floor the road climbs and winds and climbs and zig zags up an incredibly steep dry rock and scree stewn mountain side..You can see two sections of the road in the middle of this photo.

It continues across the top of the range, above the tree line, through the alpine area where we saw what I assume was a local ski club operating a ski tow and skiing down a short but very steep slope near this partly frozen lake. They were wearing helmets so it looked a bit extreme...

And we saw marmots! They are about the size of a large cat. This fella was pretending to be invisible which is great for photos!
