It is a squirrel
Ok - I have worked it out. My cute nieghbour is a Columbian Ground Squirrel - sometimes called a gopher. For some reason, I always thought gophers did not have tails and were bigger.
And this is an American Red Squirrel. I stopped at this tree in the campground in Jasper because I could here a loud chirping noise. I was waiting for a bird and out popped this squirrel. I now know what a squirrel sounds like.
