Is it a squirrel?

I don't think this is a chipmunk. I think it is a ground squirrel but really, I'm not sure. He is very cute though. He sat very still pretending to be invisible while I took his photo and then disappeared down his hole under the roots of the tree. Just near our campsite. And last night, an elk put her calf to bed under a tree next to our van.
