Quad biking? Well - why not?

I can ride a motorbike and a downhill mountainbike. I should be able to ride a quad bike, and yes, I can. WOOHOO! It was a lot of fun and the scenery on the Undoolya Station, east of Alice Springs, was dramatic and beautiful.(http://outbackquadadventures.com.au/

Not only did we learn how to ride quad bikes along sandy river beds, and up and down steep banks and around rocks, but we were also told about life on the station and how it is run. They only have a couple of quarter horses for recreational riding.  For working the station and rounding up cattle they use quad bikes, motor bikes and helicopters, plus a clever system of fenced in dams with one way gates for the cattle to enter and exit. When they want to trap the cattle, they simply lock the exit and within days they have thousands of cattle enclosed. The station has been operating since 1872 and the main house is one of the oldest buildings in central Australia. The family run Undoolya and the neighbouring station, Garden Station; a total of 3500 square kms, and have been doing so for 6 generations since 1907.

We rode about 85kms over about 4 hours, and ended up covered in red dust. It got in everywhere!! But we didn't care, we were having way too much fun!!
