Lemons to lemonade

I fell, off a gutter, on our way to the start of our second long distance walk - Offas Dyke Path.

A moment of distraction that led to a torn patellar tendon under my right knee. I did walk for five days up and down the hills of Offa's Dyke Path before deciding something had to be done about the increasing pain and I went to a hospital to see a doctor who said I must rest my leg for 6 to 8 weeks. Bugger! 'Disappointed' does not begin to describe how we feel.

Here are some things one can do with minimal walking:

Take a canal boat ride over the Pontcysyllte aqueduct in Wales.

Watch Sheryl walk over the very high aqueduct.

Ride a mobility scooter around the enormous Royal Studely Gardens and Fountains Abbey near Harrogate in the middle of England.

Go to the movies and watch someone else walking. 'The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry'

Indulge in cake at Harrogate's famous Betty's Tearooms.

Ride the local buses to neighbouring towns:-

Patley Bridge. Pancakes for lunch, yum.

Grassington, where the TV series 'All Creatures Great and Small' is filmed. We lunched in the Stripey Badger bookshop and cafe which was used as the general store in the series, right next to Siegfried's house and surgery.

My crutches and the view from the bus, of the landscape we were planning to walk through next week  on The Dales Way. Sigh...

Knaresborough. Rowing is harder than it looks but the use of knees is not required.

So, the travels continue...
