This is the Pinnacles Desert in the Nambung National Park.
Thousands of limestone pillars, up to 3 5m high, surrounded by sand.It is believed plants played a role, but there are a number of theories about how they formed. Then a fire removed vegetation from dunes and poor soil conditions prevented plant regrowth, exposing the Pinnacles. There is a 1.2km walk through the Pinnacles as well as a 4.5km drive.I spent a fascinated couple of hours wandering about, and the rain held until I was driving down the main road.
