Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania)

We had lunch in Van Diemen's Land. Seriously, there is actually a place in Ireland called Van Diemen's Land.
Usually it is Aussie places that are named after Irish ones, eg Fingal, Liffey River, Castlemaine, Longford etc. But in this case it is the other way around. In 1850 some miners named the top of a valley in Glendalough after the most remote place they knew of - Van Diemen's Land. If only they knew that walking down into it, it does actually look a bit like parts of the Overland Track.
A couple of very light showers blew over us but mostly the weather was dry and a nice cooler temperature for walking the very big up to get to this point. We started from the other end of that lake way down there.

A lovely day. Then we had to muddle our way through Dublin city centre to get home. Not much fun but not too scary as the drivers here behave rather like drivers in Melbourne.
