Three homes

Jane Austen lived in this house in the village of Chawton for the last part of her life.
It was here, in her dining room, sitting at the tiny table by the window, that she wrote most of her major published books.
This is her donkey cart, used to go shoppong at a nearby village.
This is her local church. Her mother and sister, who she lived with, are buried here. Jane is buried in Wincester where she had gone for medical treatment before her death at the age of 41.
The church is located beside this large manor house, which was owned by her brother. It was he who gave Jane, her mother and sister the cottage to live in rent free. Only part of the house is visible through the trees. There was a wedding so we could not go any closer.
Jane's days probably were spent writing all morning, then going for a long walk in the afternoon, and after dinner, reading, sewing, playing cards and chatting. Sounds like a very nice lifestyle.
And this is our home for the this week in Sussex. It is a converted cow barn!

  1. I didn't realise Jane Austen died so young, so sad.
The barn looks a fantastic place to live for a week.
