And there are gum trees in the streets, one of them anyway.
We have been staying in a converted garage in the owner's backyard for just over a week now and will be here for another 5 days. The garage is quite comfy, small but it has 2 bedrooms. Here are a few more more photos of this little fishing/tourist village. Like Devonport, it has a regular large ferry service - in Ullapool's case it is a shorter journey out to the largest of the Outer Hebridean islands and back, twice a day. We will be on that boat at the end of the month.
The hills are alive with not exactly the sound of music, although we did go to a performance of traditional fiddle music in an art gallery - no, that gold up on the hills is gorse.
Proof that there are blue skies sometimes!
Looking down on Ullapool from a walk up the hill. It is surrounded by mountains and sea.
That Rolandish mountain? It is actually Ben Coigach, a Torridonian sandstone mountain that rises over 800m from sea level.
