Strange things

The south West of WA is full of art and nature.

These are three of the five Giants of Mandurah. Large wooden installations inspired by their locations, four spread out around the area of Mandura and one in Perth, all requiring a short walk to find.

A pirate cow, life-sized, at the Leeuwin Lighthouse, where the Indian and Pacific Oceans meet.
The Busselton Peir is 1.8kms long. It still has a little train running the length, now delivering tourists to the end of the peir, rather than goods to ships.
The small town of Cowramup really does cows well. 42 of them apparently. But the name actually means place of parrots.

Margaret River is a slightly larger town, with a big range of cafes, art studios and shops located by a pretty river that gives the town its name. Some street art.

Our visit to the region coincided with an open studios festival - 150 artists. We went to several on our travels. A life-sized metal grass tree.
Felt making.
Mosaic art.
A canoe tour up Margaret River with a selection of bush foods for lunch. Delish.

One final photo of our group.
And of course, you can't visit the Margaret River region without doing at least one wine tasting. It was self-service at Happs Winery. Unplanned. We came for the art. Honest!
I am rather behind schedule with my blog posts as the three weeks with Loretta and crew have been action packed and lots of fun. Now, I am solo again, off on more adventures with Sally.
